EMMANUEL MINISTRIES OF CENTER CITY (EMCC)
Emmanuel Ministries of Center City seeks to provide a haven of rest for our homeless community. Every second and fourth Saturday, from 12 noon- to 4 pm, we extend an open invitation to all who are homeless seeking a reprieve. What began with 15 occupants are now some 25-30 persons who come to be served by members of our church community. As our vision is to “build relationships in order to create a community,” we recognize that building a sense of worth to those who have come upon hard times adds to our vision to invite them into relationship, providing some sense of community outside a life in the streets or shelters. This ministry is demanding as it is fulfilling. As such, Emmanuel seeks volunteers to help prepare meals, set up tables, serve meals, and interact with our visitors.
We are transitioning into a non-profit status as we consider seeking funds to expand our outreach, perhaps partner with other agencies in providing transitional housing and social services. For now, in addition to volunteers, we welcome donations designated specifically to Emmanuel Ministry, care of First Baptist Church of Philadelphia. Recently, our Ministry came to the attention of the Philadelphia Enquirer where an article written by Jennifer Lin was posted. On behalf of the membership of our church community, we thank all who have donated, served and continue to serve this vital ministry.
If you are a college student, professional, retired, or whatever your station in life, serving “the least among us” brings a deep sense of gratitude and purpose in our lives. There is something spiritual and meaningful as we help restore the worth of so many of our brothers and sisters in need. Please continue to prayer for Emmanuel Outreach Ministry.
